Self Tanner Madness! MyChelle’s Del Sol
I am a sucker for a tan. In my earlier post, I recounted my shady past as a sun worshipper. I’m serious…I used to have a problem. I could never be tan enough. I’m just glad I didn’t shrivel up like an old piece of leather before I saw the light -sorry for the pun. So, here I am with my new self tanner of the moment. I still love Tanagement, but am put off by discovering that it has…er, um, cough cough – phthalates. I have discovered that if the word “fragrance” is used in the list of ingredients, it is most likely a phthalate. The only time it isn’t is when the label specifically states “fragrance derived from essential oils,” or something similar. I tried Alba Oranic’s self tanner that smelled like a pina colada. It was really greasy, and guess what? Yup, you guessed it – the pina colada smell wasn’t derived from a real coconut.
Without further ado, introducing MyChelle’s Del Sol.
Pros:
- Free of parabens, phthalates, EDTA, propylene glycol
- No “dirt” smell during or after application
- Produces a subtle, nice looking color – no orange tint
- A little seems to go a long way -it can also be mixed with body lotion to give an even more subtle tan appearance.
Cons:
- A little pricey – $11-$13 for 2.3 ounces (although I’ve seen many more expensive organic sunless tanners)
- Doesn’t go on very smooth – It has a chalky texture at first
- Sticky until it dries
Referring back to my first Con, I must say that compared to other organic self tanners I’ve researched, the price isn’t too bad. A lot of the other ones were upward of $30 for 2 or 3 ounces. So, my verdict – it’s affordable! There really isn’t a scent to Del Sol either, making it a winner in the yucky smell category. I love the fact that it is phthalate free. I’ve realized that more and more cosmetic companies are offering paraben free selections, but finding products without phthalates are harder to come by. Mychelle’s Del Sol uses essential oils such as white grapefruit peel, sweet orange, and lemon. The scent of this lotion is so mild that when it dries, there isn’t a trace.
Be sure when applying this self tanner (or any), your skin is exfoliated, and dry. Rub it in evenly, and wait about ten minutes before dressing to allow for drying. Oh, and don’t forget to wash your hands.
At the moment, loving it!
