Lead in juice and kids snacks?

I am so frustrated right now. I have done my absolute best to provide healthy, organic fruits, vegetables, meat  (you name it) to my children, and now I get this newsletter from Seventh Generation stating that most of the juice on the market is full of lead!  I don’t pour juice down my kids’ throats all day. I even mix it mostly with water; I like to call it “flavored water.”  BUT, even so, within a week or so, we go through a container of juice .  I am FLOORED upon learning of this new independent study that exposes the pure negligence of the food industry, and their lack of safety regulations. Here’s the scoop:

The lead study is the work of The Environmental Law Foundation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit. The group enlisted a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency lab to screen 400 samples from 150 branded products marketed to children, including apple juice, grape juice, packaged pears and peaches (including baby food), and fruit cocktail mixes. The results: 125 out of 146 products tested, or 85 percent, contained alarming amounts of lead.

What? Are you kidding me? Of course, my kids’ juice was on the list. I freaked and went straight to Walmart and informed the manager, stating that I was SURE there would be a recall anytime now. Has there been? Not to my knowledge.  All I can hope is that the news will spread fast and consumers will stop purchasing these products.  Below I have listed the juices that exceed the safe level of lead per serving, and the list that do not exceed the levels:

  1. Consumers really have to be aware these days. You can’t depend on the FDA or private industry to look out for your kids health.

  2. Just checked and there is no apple juice we use on this list but that’s not to say there isn’t one here in the UK. Thanks for the heads up on this my wife has always diluted the kids juice.

  3. That’s the scary thing; what if your brand of juice wasn’t tested? How do you know if it has lead or not? I am still so angry about these findings…especially when all we hear these days is how autism and ADHD is on the rise. There’s no wonder!
