Self Tanner Madness! MyChelle’s Del Sol

I am a sucker for a tan. In my earlier post, I recounted my shady past as a sun worshipper. I’m serious…I used to have a problem. I could never be tan enough. I’m just glad I didn’t shrivel up like an old piece of leather before I saw the light -sorry for the pun.  So, here I am with my new self tanner of the moment. I still love Tanagement, but am put off by discovering that it has…er, um, cough cough – phthalates.  I have discovered that if the word “fragrance” is used in the list of ingredients, it is most likely a phthalate.  The only time it isn’t is when the label specifically states “fragrance derived from essential oils,” or something similar.  I tried Alba Oranic’s self tanner that smelled like a pina colada. In addition to replacing my health and beauty products for myself, I also made sure that once my son was born, I would use only organic, chemical free products on him.

Where the issue is being raised is concerning Parabens acting as estrogenic compounds. Basically, the body treats Parabens as hormones, thus disrupting the endocrine system, increasing cancer risks.  Parabens have been in our products for years, but it’s use is coming to the forefront because now Scientists are wondering if the accumulation of these estrogenic compounds in our system really is a bigger threat than once believed.
